On 12th January, many of our regular Friday Morning tennis ladies and gentlemen took part in the 10th Annual Rose bowl tournament held in memory of the late Diana Jackson who was a member of our tennis club. Twenty-eight members braved the January weather to see who would be crowned the winner this year, previous winners include Lou Nanda and last year’s victor Valerie Edminson - who came to defend her title!
Everyone enjoyed four sets of mixed doubles to a rotating format which was organised by Sue Jarrold and Anna Righton. Points were awarded for each game won. There was a friendly, but competitive atmosphere in the air and victory went to 'veteran' Dave Hunt with a total of 24 points, who is now tasked with keeping the Rose Bowl safe for the next 12 months! The event was followed with a gourmet lunch and refreshments, main courses were provided by the ladies this year, with the men serving up deserts. Lunch was topped off with a poem from Gerard McCreesh. Over £500 was raised, to be donated to Cancer Research this year. Many thanks to all that contributed to make this such a special event.
