Currently we have over 100 junior members, playing at a range of standards.
Our Junior members have the opportunity to take part in coaching and to play at a number of levels, or just socially at their own Club Night on a Friday.
Our Junior section offers children and young people the opportunity to play at a range of levels. Juniors can play all days of the week, and have their own dedicated club night on Friday - on their own courts.
From how to hold a racket to developing a rally, children will learn all the essentials that are key to falling in love with tennis. But it's not only a great way to stay active; it’s a social sport that will help your child develop valuable life skills, such as respecting one another and being part of a team! Most importantly, they'll be having fun and making new friends in a safe, relaxed environment!
There are so many developmental benefits to children playing tennis
“Knutsford’s Junior section is a very exciting environment for young players. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in Mark’s coaching programme, to develop your skills and interest in the game. Over the summer, the box leagues help to provide plenty of opportunity for match play, experience from which can then be carried over into the junior teams. Playing in the teams allows you to build the competitive side of your game and meet lots of other people from different clubs. After being in the junior squads lots of players get involved in the adult section and continue to enjoy their tennis.”
For our Junior members the Coach supervises a Friday club night during term time all year around!
Junior Membership is for 8-18 year olds who have played some tennis before. A basic ability to hit a forehand over the net on the full size court is all that is needed. Junior members also have the opportunity to play club competitions and aim for a Junior or Adult Team place. Plus don't forget that Juniors can organise their own play on the courts with other members.
On a Friday, Juniors have their own Club Night:
4.30-6.00pm - Primary School Years 4 - 6
6.00-7.30pm - All Secondary School Years
As a prospective new Junior member you are very welcome to come and try a session before joining. Just contact the Membership Secretary so she can let the Coach know to look out for you.
Juniors with BTM numbers who have paid by the 1st May can enter the Wimbledon draw.
COACHING AND TENNIS CAMPS
Juniors can also take advantage of coaching opportunities at KTC. Our coaches run sessions in the week and camps in the schools holidays. Again, you can find out more at the Tennis Aces Website. Some course places and holiday camps are open to junior non-members aged 4-14.
For children younger than this there are the following options
PRE-MINI RED: 4-5 yr olds (school year 1)
Emphasis on the fundamental skills such as movement and co-ordination. Performed on a smaller sized tennis court that goes across the width of a normal tennis court.
MINI RED: 6-8 yr olds (school year 2 & 3)
Emphasis on the fundamental skills such as movement, co-ordination and a technical introduction to rallying. Played on a smaller sized court that goes across the width of a normal tennis court.
MINI ORANGE: age 9 & under (school year 4)
Introducing children to playing on a 3/4 length tennis court, learning the basic tennis shots and having fun playing the game.
MINI GREEN: age 10 & under (school year 5)
The final stage before moving to a yellow ball, learning good technique using mini-tennis green balls which bounce lower than normal tennis balls, thus improving consistency.
If you would like to play with your kids but are not ready to join in with the adults then take advantage of our very cheap parents' rate. Excellent for helping them play tennis and something for the family to do together in the holidays.
Mini red, orange and green, which takes places on a Saturday morning, and in the week. You can find more information here
